Valorant tournament rules template you can copy

6 min read. Updated 21 September 2026.

Every dispute you will ever have to settle is easier with a written rule to point at. This is the rule set ValoTour inserts into a new tournament by default, with notes on what to change for your community. Copy it into your tournament page, your Discord pinned message, or your poster.

The template

Format

  • 5v5 custom games, best of 1. Standard competitive settings: 13 rounds to win, overtime on, cheats off.
  • Map decided by veto in the match room (alternating bans). Attack or defence side: the team that did not ban last picks side.

Before the match

  • Check in when check-in opens. Teams that miss check-in may be replaced from the waitlist.
  • Be in the match room at the scheduled time. The team in the top slot creates the custom lobby and shares the code in the match room.
  • 10 minutes after the scheduled time, a team that has not joined the lobby can be marked no-show and forfeits.

During the match

  • Any agent, any weapon. No exploits, macros, or third-party tools of any kind.
  • Disconnects: pause once per team for up to 5 minutes. If the player cannot return, the match continues one down; a technical remake is only allowed in the first 3 rounds with both captains' agreement.
  • Keep game chat clean. Racism, harassment, or threats mean removal from the cup and a report on the profile.

After the match

  • Both teams report the final score in the match room. Matching reports lock the result.
  • Keep a screenshot of the scoreboard until the cup ends. Disagreements go to the host through Report a problem with the screenshot.
  • Rank verification: any player in the cup can report a smurf or cheater. Three reports across tournaments ban the account.

Prizes

  • Prizes are paid by the host after the final. ValoTour never holds money.
  • The host's decision on disputes is final.

What to change

  • Mode and series. Change 5v5 to your mode and best of 1 to best of 3 for the final. Say which rounds are Bo3.
  • No-show window. Ten minutes is standard. Go to 15 for a casual cup, 5 for a tight schedule with many rounds.
  • Substitutes. If you allow them, say when: usually only between rounds, only players not already registered, and only with the host's approval.
  • Rank window. State it explicitly, for example Iron 1 to Gold 3 peak, current act. Say that a rank outside the window at registration is rejected and one discovered later is a forfeit.
  • Streaming. If matches may be streamed, require a delay of at least two minutes for players streaming their own POV.
  • Server. Name the server (Mumbai, Singapore, Frankfurt). Mixed-region cups need a rule for who chooses.

Custom game settings checklist

Put these in the lobby every time:

  • Mode: Standard. Server: the one in your rules.
  • Allow cheats: off. Tournament mode: on when the lobby is a full 5v5 (it locks the settings and hides names in the pre-game); leave it off for smaller modes and check the settings by hand.
  • Overtime: win by two. Play out all rounds: off. Hide match history: your call.

Deathmatch cups

Replace the Format section with: Free-for-all deathmatch lobbies of up to 12 players, one game per heat, placement points 12 for first down to 1 for twelfth, kills as the tiebreak. Top scorers across heats advance to a final heat.

ValoTour adds these rules to a new tournament with one click (Use standard rules on the create page) and renders them on the tournament page for every entrant.
